mirror #1 is a bit like a graphic score, except more concrete and literal, and a bit like tableture, except the score itself is temporal, just like the performance. You could even say the score itself is a performance. I like to think of it as a bit like a live-action video game: how often is a score just as visible to the audience as it is to the players, drip-fed to them in nerve-wracking real-time?
The task set to the performers seems straightforward, yet in actual fact, it’s impossible. But of course, watching people attempt to achieve the impossible is quite gripping – especially as the difficulty level creeps up towards absurdity.
