Einfach faszinierend.
A smooth galaxy, observed with the Apache Point 2.5m Telescope in the SDSS survey.
It is at redshift 0.018 (lookback time 257.3 million years) with coordinates (171.61876, 29.87176).
43 volunteers classified this galaxy in Galaxy Zoo 2.

One of the most remarkable photos ever taken. And it is impossible to comprehend the scale of it.
Taken by Hubble, it is a jet of gas being fired out of a supermassive black hole. The jet is 3,000 light years long (1 light year = 6 trillion miles!).

Normally, the Atacama Desert in Chile, receives less than 12 mm of rain a year.
However in the years when rainfall is unusually high, between September and November, this can happen.
