Sonja Vordermaier: ‘Streetlampforest’ (2010)

‘Streetlampforest’ is a collection of 30 european streetlamps from different origins and times (Amsterdam, Berlin, Erfurt, Leipzig, Glasgow, Innsbruck, Milano, Hamburg, Prag, Cagnes-sur-mer (France), Sarajevo, Stuttgart, Belgrade, Lippstadt, Munich, Sofia, Trieste,Wolfsburg and Vienna).

Shawn Feeny hat einen Klassiker der grafischen Notation, „Treatise“ von Cornelius Cardew, mit Sinustönen ausgelesen.

I uploaded an electronic realization of Cornelius Cardew’s massive graphic score, Treatise, that I made back in 2002. Sine waves are generated from the black areas of the score as it scrolls from right to left, with the y-axis corresponding to pitch. An imaginary vertical line in the center of the screen is the „sounding membrane“. Cardew created Treatise in 1963-67. This fairly literal realization is fifteen minutes long, which you may find maddening or mesmerizing.

Incontri di fasce sonore is one of Franco Evangelisti masterpieces.
Recorded in 1957 at WDR, Cologne, it is one of the classic scores of the integral serial music era.

This is a preliminary study to investigate the possibility of playing 1950s serial music with the Buchla synthesizer and Max/MSP.

I’ve programmed 315 mixtures of 7 sinusoidal tones in Max/MSP
carefully following the score’s instructions,
then I’ve played them freely in the Buchla, creating a variation piece.

As temporal phenomena become frozen through diligent and personal practice, the viewer is left with an insight into the edges of our era.

Viel interessanter als die irgendwie-Musiken von Kutiman finde ich Crowd-Interpretationen (nenne ich jetzt mal so) bekannter Musiken. Hatte hier schon mal die 4’33“-Version des „YouTube-Ensembles“ (nenne ich jetzt mal so – man sieht an der Häufigkeit von Neologismen, dass durch die Digitalisierung wirklich Neues in die Welt kommt), oder die süßen Kätzchen, die Schönberg spielen; in diesem Beispiel ist es „Paranoid Android“ von Radiohead, eines der wenigen Popstücke, das ich mag, wegen Melodik, charismatischer Stimme und vor allem der Form. Interessant Schön daran ist das gerade Wesen der vielen Cover-Versionen im Vergleich: ein Streifzug durch die Gesellschaft.
